Parenting Programmes and Cancer
Parents tell us they would like advice on parenting their child with cancer, however with many demands on their time this support can be difficult for them to access. We are offering parents the opportunity to take part in a research study to see if a self-help approach using a positive parenting workbook is useful to parents and their children.
What will the project involve?
Once parents have read the information sheets, they will be asked to fill in some questionnaires online. This will take around 30 minutes. Following on from this, 10 parents will have the opportunity to complete a workbook. The workbook guides parents (over 10 weeks) through a structured self-help parenting skills programme (Self-directed Triple P). You will be asked to complete further questionnaires during and at the end of the project.
Who can take part?
- If you are over the age of 18 and are the parent or guardian of a child with a diagnosis of cancer aged between 3 and 10 years
- It has been 6 months since diagnosis
- You or your child do not have a significant mental health diagnosis
- You feel confident reading without help
