CIGMR Biobank operates a state of the art ISO 9001:2008 certified facility. Our core processing laboratories are situated in The Centre for Integrated Genomic Medical Research at The University of Manchester.
Sample Processing is performed in an automated environment using Hamilton, Tecan and Biomicrolab robotics where possible to reduce manual sample handling error, increase accuracy and increase constancy of approach.
Long term storage is carried out in standardised 2D bar coded vessels wherever possible in a temperature controlled environment appropriate for the sample type. Storage facilities are monitored 24 hours a day seven days a week using an automated telemetry system which sends automated e-mails and texts to designated members of staff if there are problems. As an additional safeguard, all freezers are protected by CO2 back-up cylinders.
