Memory Research Unit (MRU)
Facilities
The Memory Research Unit (MRU) group (formerly Human Memory and Amnesia) has established a valuable research resource in the Human Memory and Cognitive Brain Imaging Labs, consisting of:
- a mock MRI scanner
- high-spec cognitive testing facilities
- high-spec image analysis facilities
- eye-tracking facilities
- an EEG lab (housed within the School of Psychological Sciences EEG Lab)
Research focus
The focus of the Memory Research Unit (MRU) research group has been on exploring the neural bases of memory using a convergent methods approach that draws on research involving:
- Behavioural, eye-tracking and pupil responses
- Patient Neuropsychology
- Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Structural MRI (including DTI - Diffusion Tensor Imaging)
- Event-related electroencephalography (EEG)
- Neuronal Modelling
In addition, our focus extends:
- across the lifespan from childhood to old age
- clinically from studies exploring the learning and memory effects of paediatric brain tumour patients to studies of neurodegeneration and dementia
- translationally to studies exploring optimised learning styles in children and adolescents
