Reconstructive Microsurgery
‘plastic surgery is a constant battle between blood supply and beauty.’ Gillies and Millard 1957.
At the heart of modern day Plastic Surgery is the new and exciting field of Reconstructive Microsurgery. A number of techniques have been learnt from the world leaders in Reconstructive Microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, which hopes to revolutionise vascular tissue engineering. This involves the detailed study of the interaction between inflammatory cells and angiogenesis in the context of complex wounds. This work is funded by the Royal College of Surgeons and supported by the University Hospital of South Manchester. The work being conducted is in collaboration with Professor Tracy Hussell at the Manchester Collaborative Centre for Inflammation Research and Professor Nicola Tirelli, in Tissue Injury and Repair.
