Dr Helen Young, Senior Lecturer and Consultant Dermatologist

Helen Young

Dr Young is a Senior Lecturer in Dermatology at The University of Manchester, and a Consultant Dermatologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.

Helen received her MB, ChB and PhD degrees from The University of Manchester. She trained in dermatology on the North West Regional Dermatology Training Scheme (Manchester) and at Harvard Medical School where she was a Research Fellow in Dermatology at the Cutaneous Biology Research Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA.

Helen is one of the four Consultant Dermatologists who lead the Manchester Psoriasis Service at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Her Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) funded Clinical Senior Lectureship was awarded in September 2008, and she is the first dermatologist to have received this award.

Dr Young addresses research questions arising from direct patient care, particularly in the field of psoriasis. Her work aims to increase understanding of inflammatory skin disease. She is also exploring emerging evidence that cardiovascular disease is an important co-morbidity of psoriasis.
