Skin cancer and vitamin D
The main focus of this research is assess the optimal amounts of sunlight exposure required to achieve sufficient vitamin D levels, whilst avoiding the over-exposure that leads to significant adverse effects, principally skin cancer. This includes exploration of the respective requirements of a wide range of population groups, including people of different skin types, colours and ages.
The work includes collaboration with the University of Manchester's School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences and the Endocrinology and Diabetes Research Group. Professor Lesley Rhodes holds public health advisory roles as well as running a research programme in this field.
