Psychological stress

We are currently planning a programme of activity to investigate the overlap between psychological and physiological functioning. In particular the effects of excess arousal (stress) on immune function, pain and itch perception and inflammatory responses in patients with skin conditions, particularly the role of stress in exacerbating psoriasis.

Using experimentally induced stress we are measuring the effect on cell functioning, immune and inflammatory responses in people without skin conditions initially in order to understand these processes. This will then be applied to patients with skin conditions.
